Yesterday, my son Michio joined me,
for a swim at the local pool…
The water was somewhat cooled by recent rain…
We swam together, and we watched as the sky turned dark.
Then, what looked like a flash from a camera;
a lightning bolt came down right in front of us,
just above the water-line…
It was fun while it lasted…

My friend Akie brought me this most gorgeous mango,
when she & Miki came to visit me this past Saturday.
I decided to use it in a still life painting, before I consider tasting it!
For contrast, I included a porcelain chopsticks holder, a fish-shaped “hashioki”,
all setting on my earth-toned, batik-style tablecloth…
On Saturday, July 28th, as Typhoon #12 approached,
I had a nice reunion visit with my 2 dear friends, Miki & Akie…
We met early enough, before the storm arrived,
and caught up on each others news, since last we met…

I just realized how long it’s been since I've picked up my paint brushes!
The extreme summer heat finds me indoors,
as my favorite summer activity, swimming,
is not possible in the public pools…
Until there is a strong rain, and/or cooler night temps,
the pools' water temps are now at 33c (91F) and the outside air temp at 35c, (95F)
that would be a no, thanks...

It was great working once again, with "Gon" Mizuhashi, on bass.
It’s been a while since we played together!
It was my first time to meet and play music with Toru Tsuzuki, on piano;
he has a nice touch, and his playing was a good match, to my blues-y vocals...
We had a good audience of both old friends and new, for our “first day of Summer” show-
I hope to perform again soon, with these guys...
Big thanks to Kei Ishida, at Club Kei,
for her hospitality and keeping her venue going all these years,
so live jazz can continue to happen there!
