This past Saturday, was my performance at Ganbarou…
Shifo-san, supported me on piano,
(she is a singer/ songwriter herself...)
Morita-san on bass.
There was a good turn out; it’s a nice little "live" spot,
very conveniently located, for me...
I had the beginnings of a nasty sore throat/ cold,
I have never had this kind of voice disruption before,
my vocals were slightly different from what they usually are.
I was “stage-singing” a lot; singing from the diaphragm, without a microphone,
as this was the only way I could get a good tone.
It was a nice night, and a good experience!

Recently, I was saddened to read about the passing of a great trumpet & flügelhorn player,
Roy Hargrove...
I met Roy years ago at Tokyo’s Live Jazz Club “Body & Soul".
After my gig there that night, there was a jam session
with some of the guys in town, visiting from the nearby “Blue Note”.
Roy and I played a tune together...
He had such emotion in his trumpet playing, it made a lasting impression on me.
Rest in peace, Roy...
