Lots and lots of laughs
and the freedom to just be;
old friends, together…

This past Summer I had a chance to visit with
my old friends, Mary & Tom…
As with my family, I had not seen them in so many years,
it was so good to reconnect, once again.
Mary took me for a drive around Pine Bush,
the town I went to school,
and we grew up in…
Some has changed, and some has stayed the same.
The light, and the way it falls on things there, forever stays in my memory,
it was so nice to see it, again…
I went back to my childhood home,
and collected leaves from the Japanese Maple,
on the front yard…
I took some photos, but mostly I just wanted to experience it,
with my old friend…

“ Butterfly, 2016… ”
We had a lot of fun this Summer, hanging out
in Mary’s extensive gardens-
Her many flowers and vegetables were good subject matter, for my painting!
I enjoyed the meals we had together,
and also seeing their daughters, Maria, (Valentino’s mom) Tina, and Kelly,
and their husbands and significant others…
My sister Bonnie observed this about Mary & me; ”You guys don’t see each other for years,
and you just pick up, where you left off”…
Yep. That’s pretty much it.
On my last visit with Tom and Mary, before returning back to Tokyo,
I made chicken curry for us all.
We sat outside sipping brews, while listening to WPDH 101.5, Classic-Rock…
After dinner we took a drive out to a nearby ice-cream stand, for ice cream cones.
This is as American as it gets, on a hot Summer night,
and it felt good to experience it, again!

It was a great, great visit,
that will carry me, ‘till next time.
I went further upstate, to see my sister Wendy.

Today is my youngest sister Bonnie’s birthday.
I stayed close to 2 months this past Summer
based with her and her family,
it was a wonderful time.
This painting is of a flowering shrub that was there,
amongst the gardens, that caught my eye…

“ Sunset Colors ”
Soon after I took this photo, the annual Fuchu Racetrack fireworks started.
I decided this year, to watch from my outdoor hallway balcony.
Good for convenience, but not for photos…
I stood watching, and my neighbor in the building came out and joined me.
We shared a couple cold ones, and watched the show;
it was 30 minutes long…

“ The Farmer’s Flowers ”

On Washi Postcard
My monthly Etegami session, was today, the last one before Summer break.
I chose a bright bunch of wild flowers I found in an overgrown field in my neighborhood…
Usually this field was the first of the season to be flooded and planted with rice seedlings,
and growing thick, by now…
The elderly farmer that always planted there, was always quick with a big smile, a wave,
and a passing "Genki?!" to me, as I rode by on my bicycle...
This year, his field is overrun by weeds, and a small bunch of wild flowers…
This bright and cheerful flower, reminds me of him…
