“ Mini-Golf Lake Dock ”

This painting is of the beautiful lake,
near my #3 sister Wendy and her family’s mini-golf course,
in upstate NY, where I visited this Summer…
The dark area on the bottom, is my shadow, while painting!

Today is Wendy’s birthday.

I stayed with her and her family about 3 weeks,
late-Aug. till early Sept.,
it was a wonderful time...

I’ll post more about that soon,
but today...

“ Pam & Mary, Old Friends… ”

Lots and lots of laughs
and the freedom to just be;
old friends, together…

This past Summer I had a chance to visit with
my old friends, Mary & Tom…

As with my family, I had not seen them in so many years,
it was so good to reconnect, once again.

Mary took me for a drive around Pine Bush,
the town I went to school,
and we grew up in…

Some has changed, and some has stayed the same.

The light, and the way it falls on things there, forever stays in my memory,
it was so nice to see it, again…

I went back to my childhood home,
and collected leaves from the Japanese Maple,
on the front yard…

I took some photos, but mostly I just wanted to experience it,
with my old friend…

“ Butterfly, 2016… ”

We had a lot of fun this Summer, hanging out
in Mary’s extensive gardens-
Her many flowers and vegetables were good subject matter, for my painting!

I enjoyed the meals we had together,
and also seeing their daughters, Maria, (Valentino’s mom) Tina, and Kelly,
and their husbands and significant others…

My sister Bonnie observed this about Mary & me; ”You guys don’t see each other for years,
and you just pick up, where you left off”…

Yep. That’s pretty much it.

On my last visit with Tom and Mary, before returning back to Tokyo,
I made chicken curry for us all.

We sat outside sipping brews, while listening to WPDH 101.5, Classic-Rock…
After dinner we took a drive out to a nearby ice-cream stand, for ice cream cones.

This is as American as it gets, on a hot Summer night,
and it felt good to experience it, again!

It was a great, great visit,
that will carry me, ‘till next time.

I went further upstate, to see my sister Wendy.

“ From Bonnie’s Garden ”

Welcome October, my favorite month of the year!

While visiting New York this past Summer,
I stayed first with my youngest sister Bonnie.

Amongst Bonnie's many capabilities, she is quite a gardener;
she grew flowers, fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables,
throughout the season…

I’d walk along with her, as she weeded,
and picked…

One day, she discovered this huge zucchini,
that somehow was overlooked, beneath the leaves…

I had to paint it, along with the colorful ripe plum tomatoes,
and a strawberry…

Bonnie and her husband Joey
are both excellent Italian cooks…

Pots of beautiful tomato sauce were made with the plum tomatoes, and zucchini;
I prepared garden salads to complement the dinners…

This painting is a good memory of that time…

I stayed close to 2 months this past Summer
based with her and her family,
it was a wonderful time.

This painting is of a flowering shrub that was there,
amongst the gardens, that caught my eye…

I’m back in Japan…

I had an excellent visit to see my family, dear friends,
and re-connect with my roots in New York,
after a long time away…
