This is one of the first en plein air paintings I did here in Japan,
in early June of ’92.
I liked it so much, I’ve never showed it publicly,
or considered selling it- it’s in my private collection.
I still remember
the wonder I felt seeing
these blooms the first time
I brought all my paints
and sat along the ricefield
and got acquainted...
Seasonally I’d
re-visit, and then I move'd...
Now they are no more
I took a trip to the Takahata Fudo-son Temple yesterday,
to see this year’s chrysanthemum festival,
but it wasn’t happening...
There were no advertisements as usual about it,
so I thought it might’ve been canceled, as most everything else has been
due to Covid-19, but I wanted to go anyway...
I had a mini-hike around the grounds, with its climbing paths
I got many good views of the slightly changing colors of Autumn.
I took photos, and I bought some temple incense.
It was very quiet, for a Sunday,
and I enjoyed the cool fresh air and sunshine...
