It was my last monthly Etegami session, yesterday,
with my regular group.

After 11 years as our Etegami teacher, Hamada-sensei has retired.

As my way of saying thanks,
I presented her with “Jar of Brushes”,
matted and framed.

She has been a wonderful teacher, to me...

with my regular group…

Rather than focus on a formal object as today’s subject,
I decided to focus on an every-day item;
something at hand, adding interest to this object,
as I had similarly done with my last work…

Today was my monthly Etegami/ Calligraphy session.

Bing cherries are now in season in Japan,
here they are called “American Cherry”...

I've been eating these almost everyday, and decided they would make a great subject, for today’s painting.

Hamada-sensei helped me with today's calligraphy/kanji for “Oishii” (delicious)
“ 美味しい, ” meaning “Beautiful Taste”.

It was a good session, today...

My show at SOMETIME, is one week away...

Today was my monthly Etegami/ Calligraphy session, with my group.

I chose a clump of wild violets, with leaves, as my subject…

Hamada-sensei helped me with my calligraphy/kanji ; “ 感謝 ” (Kansha),
meaning “With Appreciation”.

Also, one of our members had 2 special guests join our group for today;
her elderly parents, visiting from Shanghai, China!

It was a good session...

Sending my best wishes for the people of Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan,
after a 6.4 earthquake, last night…

The leaves are out, Winter is officially done!

Today was my Etegami/ Calligraphy session with the group.

I chose the Gloriosa (Fire Lily) as my subject…

I haven’t attended since last December,
it was a productive session…

Hamada-sensei helped me with the calligraphy/kanji 赤 (“Aka”), meaning “Red”.

It was a warm day today, after an early morning jolt;
an earthquake in the form of a strong jolt, then gone...

I'm hoping that'll be it, for awhile...

it feels like Spring is not far!

Today was our "New Year Card" Etegami session...

I chose the graceful and sweetly- scented Suisen, or Narcissus flower,
as my subject.

Since photographing them last week for my sister's card,
I've been somewhat besotted by their essence...

My kanji-character, "Heiwa" is my wish for 2015- Peace...

After, we had lunch and a birthday cake for one of our members, Shindo-san,
whose birthday was yesterday...

Next week, the last Ikebana session, for this year...

My Etegami session, was yesterday...

There were many subject choices, but the quince caught my attention...

It was my first time to see/smell/touch a Japanese quince...

It has a clean, citrus-y fragrance, and is oily to the touch...

Next week, we will meet for one more painting event;
a special New Year's Card session.

at Lumiere, was a success...

There were people from many different countries,
as well as good food and drink,
Ikebana, and Etegami displays,
cultural dance, and musical performances...

Today was my Etegami group session.

I had no ideas, for a subject,
I felt no inclinations, at all...

But then our leader, Hamada-sensei,
cut these berry-vines, and laid them out...

The challenge presented itself...

I just "followed" the colors, the tangling vines,
the shapes of the berry clusters; like small explosions,
and went to where it took me...

Painting is sometimes like problem solving, for me-

The challenge is to allow the answer to present itself...

Today I chose this exotic Japanese fruit,
and vegetable, for my subjects...

The earthy, and unusual colors inspired me...
