“Blue Ajisai at Lake Kawaguchiko”
Lorna,Yusu, Nouny, & I,
recently took a day trip to Yamanashi Pref.,
to visit the Lake Kawaguchiko Herb Festival (June 22~July 16).
We were fortunate to get a break in the rain; it was an overcast, cool and cloudy day,
and although Mt. Fuji could not be seen,
a most gorgeous view was closer to the ground!

The air was full of the scent of lavender!
It has been a dream of mine, to visit the lavender fields of Provence, France, one day...
To take it all in, paint, and just breathe…
How wonderful to find lavender fields in Yamanashi!

I love this photo.
As a child, I grew up near a lake-
It was a good feeling to be near one, again...

The scent of lavender had a calming effect,
the longer we spent there,
the more the effects could be felt...
There was this gorgeous new-age/ambient type keyboard music playing,
I noticed from the moment we got out of the car...
I am a big fan of ambient music; Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Clive Wright, Robin Guthrie,
are some of my favorites…
The music I was hearing was definately in that vein...
I thought it was piped in, but as we made our way along the lake,
and across the lavender field, there he was, a keyboard wizard!

I bought lavender ice cream, and a bouquet of fresh lavender to take home.
After a few hours,
we were very relaxed, but getting hungry, so we headed back to the car...
We decided to check out this unique and unusual looking place,
we saw on the last trip to Yamanashi,
but we never went in...
This place features Yamanashi-style Hōttō;
a delicious dish of flat udon-dumpling noodles, with vegetables, in a miso-base soup.
The restaurant is called Fudo Hōttō.
