My friend Kristy and I had a rare couple hours to hang out and peruse some of our favorite fun shops... When we got to the 3rd floor, we were surprised to see the "red & white striped curtains" that surround newly closed shops. After a moment, curiosity replaced our disappointment. What remained behind the curtains? What was left of this one-time Palace of Kitsch; our beloved shop...? 390¥ We peeked inside the curtains to see many neatly-packed plastic containers. Walls that once held the gamut of thrift-store paraphernalia, lay threadbare, like a Who-ville house after a Grinch visit... The blue M&M's guy stood in a far corner, arms still posed in the now strangely poignant double thumbs up, topped off with his signature white gloves... © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy The M&M's guy, 2 salesgirls, Me & Kristy In the 390¥ stores' happier times My personal favorite, Sharky, was still mounted on the wall... © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Theme From "Jaws" John Williams A fun time for Kristy & I, we both shall miss the shop, 390¥ especially the outrageous & wonderfully manic music! It's always a pleasant walk through the park, to get there : © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Michael in Fuchu Park 11-11-2010 © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy On the way to Fuchu Art Museum 11-11-2010 © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Photo : Michael Robben A Moment... 11-11-2010 The works are wonderful. Here are two pieces that caught my eye : Seaside and Cliffs of Pourville In the Morning Claude Monet Oil 1882 View of the Cherry Blossoms On the Sumida River Takahashi, Yuichi Oil 1874 These are just 2 of many pieces, that must be seen in person! My beef with this Gallery is the lack of English in anything other than the title of the work, and that's only on the tags next to the paintings- No descriptions, mediums, backround information about the artists, or works, is in English. The paintings were hung too low to view comfortably... A positive experience, none the less. Michael & I both enjoyed this show! Till Next Time...

A short while ago, I took a day trip to Yokohama's Chinatown... I have been there many times, and each time is unique. This time, I was invited for a day of forgetting my troubles, from a fellow New Yorker who resides there, a superb pianist by the name of David Howland. I met David at my audition in September, for the tour that never happened. That audition, if nothing else, was responsible for our meeting. David's specialty is musical theater. His playing is reminiscent of Eddy Duchin, but his style is all his own. We met for a fabulous Chinese buffet lunch, at Lai Shiang Song Shu-ka, in Chinatown. We sat in a booth with a view of a Chinese- styled temple, as we talked for hours over a full buffet of delicious dishes and drinks, all about our hometowns, our careers, etc... © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Lantern @ Chinatown Temple, Yokohama 11-4-2010 Then, at about 3pm., when the buffet closed, we started walking... © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy David Howland at the Canal 11-4-2010 A great way to get to know a person is to walk around with them through their neighborhood... © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy A gorgeous vintage MG we passed along the way... We continued along, until we reached the International School. There, we stopped in for an impromptu visit of another musician friend, who teaches there... Continuing along, it's a pleasant but steep walk to "The Bluffs". © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy A "Charles De Gaulle" Rose @ "The Bluffs" Rose Garden © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy The Rose Garden Gazebo at Sunset © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Yokohama Bay Bridge View From "The Bluffs" I had an excellent day. I had a lovely first-day-of November stroll along Omotesando Dori, where I go to visit my doctor. Although famous for its designers, & high-end shops, for me, the little bits of nature, that add perfection to the architecture, is what catches my eye... I love the colors of November in Japan! My favorite month has always been October, But November in Japan is becoming my favorite. The colors ! © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Grate Shot! © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy White Swan © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Silver and Gold © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Standing Still © 2010 Pamela MacCarthy Black Swan I went up into this building to explore... I felt like a black swan, perched on the steps. I love the drama of black on a white backround... Today, the grey dramatic clouds have passed, and there is an enchanting November lapis-lazuli blue sky... Till Next Time...
