Upcoming Live Performances:
On May 6th, Friday I will be appearing at a new live house for me in Tachikawa called Half Tone.
I will be performing with a new pianist I met a short while ago, Hiro Morozumi.
On May 13th, Friday I'll be at Jazz Spot "J" Shinjuku. One of my "regular" livehouses, I like to perform here as Koda-san and his staff are so hospitable, and I feel free to musically experiment. I'll be performing with one of my favorite pianist here in Japan, Keisaku Takahashi.
I'll also be using a few new guys this time around.
I heard some nice guitar work coming from an outdoor Xmastime gig in Shinjuku. I had to go over and check him out, and he will be joining me this time. Greg Chako knows all the chords, and I think he'll be a nice addition to this mix.
Together with another new player, electric bassman Hiroshi Eguchi.
I met Hiroshi almost a year ago, when he came to see me perform at the Satin Doll Roppongi. He was returning back to Japan, after completing a tour with Mavis Staples. Hiroshi plays some funky electric bass, which is a sound I'm looking for this time around.
Also joining me will be drummer Yosuke Hase. As well as jazz,THE BLUES will be played.
On June 17th, Friday, I'll be at Club KEI, AKASAKA.
My schedule just would not be complete without an appearance here. I'll be appearing with the fabulous Stan Gilbert; on bass, and Shigeo Fukuda on piano.
On June 19th, Sunday, I'll be performing with The Big Wing Jazz Orchestra at Session Suginami Hall. I appeared the first time with these guys 5 years ago.
The theme of this event will be: 26th Swing is Here! A Celebration of the Great American Songbook.
I will be selecting tunes from the works of Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerome Kern, & Harold Arlen, to name a few...
Akio Ueda; tenor sax, composer, arr., will be arranging my big band charts for this. He did a fabulous job the first time I appeared with this big band, arranging all 5 pieces.
I hope to see you there!
Till next time... 'Mela
