“Spring Ride Home On The Bikepath”
53 cm x 65 cm
Gouache on canvas
This painting is a historical piece now.
What was once a little stream with beams across is now completey covered with concrete. The stream flows underneath this concrete, and cars now also drive on this pathway...
Changes. That's what Spring is all about. As a child, the first glance of the forsythia meant it wouldn’t be long before it got warm. They are called rengyo in Japanese. But the real sign of it for me were the dandelions. I remember looking out onto my front lawn as a young girl and seeing dandelions as far as I could see.
We also had two Japanese plum trees in the front yard. I remember the fragrance of the blossoms, and the bees they would attract. I remember thinking, "These are peculiar plums." How could I have known that many years later, I would be living in the place where they actually come from, and these bitter plums are ume boshi plums, not the kind you find in a bowl of fruit, but on top of a rice bowl...
Spring is here!
Till next time... 'Mela
