Photo: Metering

I'll be on vacation for a week and a half.

I plan to take advantage of the beautiful scenery to do some watercolor work...

I'll be back and ready to rumble!

Yesterday was one of the hottest days, ever!

Not just hot, but humid and cloudy.
A good day for a summer haircut!

I gave my son, Michio, one:

Right after Michio left for work,
it got very dark with storm clouds-
Around 6pm.
Then, a strange bright light poked through,
with a sprinkling of rain.

I went out on my balcony to bring in dry laundry,
and saw this:

So, I decided to take a walk in the direction of this rainbow...

It was one of those neighborhood moments,
when people come out,
and marvel at something out of the ordinary.

Walking along,
it put me in mind of an event that happened almost 40 years ago,
the lunar landing...

On a far less grand a scale,
but never the none the less...

I remember that event on television,
at my grandparents' restaurant,
where I was a youngster working for the summer.

We all listened and watched...

Gliddy glub gloopy Nibby nabby noopy La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba Nooby abba nabba Le le lo lo
Tooby ooby walla Nooby abba naba
Early morning singing song...

Good Morning Starshine

Meanwhile, back on the ricepaddy...

I walked to the big expanse of open sky,
eh, voilà :

Somewhere over the Rainbow...

Walter Cronkite.

And, I am also very saddened to learn of the passing of
Frank McCourt,
author of the beloved books Angela's Ashes, 'Tis, and Teacher Man...

But come ye back when Summer's in the meadow
Or, when the valley's hushed, and white with snow
Yes I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow...
Oh, Danny Boy, I love you so,
Oh Danny Boy...

Happy Birthday, Robbin!

Hey, 19!

Robbin & I were both students & friends,
together majoring in Commercial Art, back when...

These photos were taken with a "box" type 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 Reflex camera,
as part of our Photography class.

I've kept them over the years.
I love the expressions on both our faces-

2 young women, facing the future...

Robbin went on into TV,
and I went into Jazz, and Fine & Digital Art.

We are both mothers...

Wishing you a great day, and year, Robbin!

I had a chance to meet Michael in NYC, in 1984.

NYC in the 80's!

If you were there, and out and about,
chances were prime for meeting people.

It's what made, & makes N.Y.C., N.Y.C.!

I was off that night in early Summer,
Akio & I were about to enter a favorite Eastside haunt,
Danny Boy's, on Second Ave.

Walking in the familiar, crowded, noisy establishment,
which had some of the most charming Irish bartenders,
we sat at the bar.

But there was a rumpus.

I mean, more than the usual.

The first hint was people screaming outside the bar trying to get in,
but couldn't, as the door was locked from the inside.

But my mentality at that time was Weird + Life = Status Quo,
so I didn't break my brains pondering the possibilities.

I ordered a Harp, and looked around...

Hint # 2:
A woman was screaming on the other side of the plate glass window,
through the neon shamrocks...

So I followed her look, and saw sitting at the bar,
Michael Jackson.

And almost as soon as I saw him, he saw me.
We just looked at each other, a meeting of the minds.

I nodded to him, and he gave me a wink, and a smile...

Everyone else disappeared for the length of that glance...

Then, his limo arrived, and he made the great escape.

Here's a photo of me around that time :

I will always remember the vibrancy of Michael's music,
how it made me feel more alive.

How his "Wooooo" intro to
"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough"
put spring in my step...

His incredible dancing...

I felt a camaraderie, at that time....
As an entertainer myself, and as a person alive then.
We were all a part of it!

I feel like I lost a Brother in Arms,
a friend...

R.I.P. Michael...

You'll live on
through your music & videos !

Till Next time...
