Happy Birthday, August babies!

A special greeting to my nephew, Dominick,
my mom, Shirley,
and my friend Michael,
who all have birthdays this month...

their death knell of late August-

My neighborhood river fireworks show was canceled on account of bad weather.

Neighboring farther up the river,
Chofu's event is our last chance for fireworks action,
happening tonight, peut-être...

Surly weather looms, and the sky is looking again,
like it isn't going to happen.

We'll see...

Also, I never made it to the beach.

Entirely too much exertion required.

The idea was good, in theory-
But I'm more the Fly to my beach vacation,
arriving at the sparsely populated, welcoming beach,
a short walk from my air-conditioned condo/hotel,
kind of girl...

The romance of a two-hour-each-way commute on a crowded train
to a crowded beach that charges for fresh water showers,
was wasted on me.

This Summer, I took my opportunities for fun where I could find them...

Keepin' it simple works for me.

A few things that have gotten me through
one of the hottest Summers ever:

A very cool concert my friend Michael took me to
at Tokyo's relatively-new venue in Mid-town, Roppongi,
called Billboard.
On the roster; classical/rock keyboard legend, Rick Wakeman

This drink.

My neighborhood ce-ment pond.
Cheap, clean, and easy to get to.

The local movie theater.
I went to see this.
Next week, this.

My Ikebana classes.
Although formal classes with our sensei
and a few classmates went on hiatus for Summer break,
informal classes with our smaller group continued...

I so enjoy meeting with the girls, weekly!

Welcome back to Kristy, returning to Japan
after her visit home;
in Winter, Down Under...

Venturing back on the train from a Poetry reading,
one very hot Sunday afternoon
at WTD,
I caught a full-page ad in The Metropolis magazine about this new
NY styled restaurant in Shibuya, with live Jazz...

My curiosity piqued,
it seemed a plausible answer to a perplexing situation
that has been dogging my Tokyo live music
appearance schedule :

Live houses have too much cigarette smoke,
and Hotel gigs are either closed to me (as an international artist who resides in Tokyo,)
or finish too late for my homebound train.

This seemed worth an investigation...

I've met with the managers, who seem co-operative.
The place feels like what I'd call "comfortably chic".

Tokyo Main Dining is a nice-sized restaurant/bistro
located in the heart of Shibuya,
with what I believe potential for being an alternative
to what now exists...

Starting from October,
I will appear there,
with my long-time friend & pianist Keisaku Takahashi.

I am looking forward to this experience
to feature another facet of my performing repertoire-

As well as the Jazz and Blues
I've been known for,
I want to show-off some of my New Yorker roots,
and include Cabaret and Theater tunes
in my performances...

I'll update my Agenda page with exact times and dates soon!

Runnin' pretty, New York City girl
Twenty-five, thirty-five
Hello, baby, New York City girl

You grew up ridin' the subways,
running with people
Up in Harlem, down on Broadway
You're no tramp, but you're no lady,
talkin' that street talk
You're the heart and soul of New York City

And love, love is just a passing word
It's the thought that you had in a taxi cab
that got left on the curb
When he dropped you off and he stated firm

Oh oh, oh ohhh
You're a native New Yorker
You should know the score by now
You're a native New Yorker

Native New Yorker

'Till Next Time...
