Happy Birthday to all you Aquarians out there!

I helped to celebrate the birthday of my long time friend,
jazzman drummer extraordinaire,
Jimmie Smith, Saturday
at an elegant Roppongi Hills establishment.

Jimmie has an awesome professional résumé,
but my favorite part is the part where
he played on my debut CD, How about You?

No pics to offer, as this was a
you had to be there kind of thing...

My friend Michael R. was also there,
and a good time was had by all...

I’d like to wish a very Happy Belated Birthday
to my niece, Danielle, who had a birthday last week.

Also, to another musican / friend of mine,
whose birthday party unfortunately I missed last night,
guitarist JJ Vicars.

I’m sure it was a great party at Takadanobaba’s ”The Fiddler”.
He was backed by the Tokyo blues outfit The Max Blues Band.

Hopefully, I’ll get another chance sometime soon to catch his show.

I’ve updated my iPOD,
with 2 Winter 2007 lists:

Part 1

Some Other Spring - Billie Holiday
Ceremony - New Order
Man, That Was a Dream - Carmen McRae
I’ve Seen Better Days- Citizen King
Everything’s Zen - Bush
What Ever Happened - The Strokes
Nowhere Girl - B Movie
Songbird - Fleetwood Mac
How I Wish (Ask Me Now) - Carmen McRae
Tommib - Squarepusher
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
I’m Coming Over - X
That Old Devil Moon - Carmen McRae
All Cats Are Grey - The Cure

Part 2

Age of Consent - New Order
These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ - Nancy Sinatra
The Nobodies - Marilyn Manson
Holiday in Cambodia - The Dead Kennedys
Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order
Jynweythek Ylow -Aphex Twin (Marie Antoinette Soundtrack)
Fascination Street - The Cure
Straighten Up & Fly Right - Carmen McRae
Opus 17 - Dustin O'Halloran (Marie Antoinette Soundtrack)
Bela Lugosi’s Dead - Bauhaus
Too Many Creeps - The Slits
Year of the Cat - Al Stewart

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime

She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the Year of the Cat ...

The Year of the Cat

Pamela MacCarthy at Half Tone
photo: Shinichi Inada

This is a photo taken at one of my gigs at Half Tone, Tachikawa.
I performed there with Keisaku Takahashi on piano,
and also did a few numbers using Mr. Inada's guitar.

I will appear again there on April 13th, Friday.

Some fun things coming up, birthday parties / jam sessions.

I'll report back later...

January lingers on.

What was once a bright and shiny red,
is starting to resemble dried blood...

It is all in the wrist, all in the perspective.

A day can turn from a golden amber peace pipe extravaganza,
to the murkiest grey / bottom-of-the lagoon-under-the-rotting-tree-trunk green.

I look for the Glockenspiel of good tidings;
the tap dancing muse of inspiration,
to lift me up off the premises of The Doldrums, Inc.;
a subsidiary of the Hum Drum Corporation;
to which I now have a metered parking place at.

Winter seems to navigate me in this direction
for as long as I can remember,
with the exception of my winters in Los Angeles...

Maybe I should visit an Art Gallery.

But there’s something lethargic
about the Tokyo museum experience;
the pale faced museum guardians,
sitting in quiet darkened corner chairs
with blankets over their knees,
staring blankly
like wax figures,
stirring long enough to cast curious eyes at
personal conversations rising above a whisper.

Why should art galleries have such an air
of solemness!

It saps my energy,
and makes me think that the paintings aren't art
to be celebrated,
but the toenail clippings of Gulliver,
to be displayed and shown off,
and to be guarded and protected from the likes of
pesky Lilliputians...

I ‘m daydreaming of tropical waters...

Oh, wouldn't it be loverly?
