This is my new computer art piece, "Clouds in my Coffee".

I started sketching a costume, and this mood took over...
This is the last piece to be displayed at my computer art show.
50 selected pieces will be exhibited,
starting from February 1999 till present.

I drew my first "Meladrama" in an apartment on
103rd/ Riverside Drive, NYC,
on the wall, in make-up.

I was compelled to.

I didn't know why then,
and I still don't know why now.
Maybe I'm not meant to know...

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee,
clouds in my coffee...

You're So Vain

A small triumph...
Today marks my 3rd year free of tobacco & alcohol.
And that's basically all I have to say today.

My son Michio took the photograph-
He has quite an eye...

This is "ICE", my first computer art piece for 2005.

It has been snowy and rainy here for the past two days.
Coinciding with my son’s college entry exams.
Today’s are the math/Japanese tests.
After these long awaited and prepared for tests are done,
he plans to celebrate by calling one of his
oldest buddies for an afternoon of
marathon NINTENDO...

I’m going to make a pot of something hot and steamy;
a huge pot of soup...

Happy Birthday to me!

Also born on this day:

Richard Nixon, Joan Baez, Les Paul, Bucky Pizzarelli, Dave Matthews,
Crystal Gayle, Jimmy Page, "Gypsy" Rose Lee, Gracie Fields, George Balanchine,
Simone de Beauvoir, Susanna York ...

The garnet is my birthstone.

Thanks for all cards from my family and friends!

I will spend the day quietly,
having an Indian feast with my son, Michio.
We've completed the big job of mounting the images to boards today.
Tomorrow I'll meet with the designer and get the flyers done...

I guess I'm saving the real celebration for my opening party,
in February...
More about that soon.

Till next time... 'Mela

The New Years’ holiday is all but over.
In Japan, it is a slow-down of everything for the first 3 days
of January.
Some people go back to their hometowns,
and things become less crowded
than usual in town.
Usually, the air is cleaner where I am, a bit outside of Tokyo,
(except on a “burn” day, they incinerate trash here)
but during this holiday all major factories are closed,
so the air is so clear that you see Mt. Fuji on the horizon...

My son Michio and I have been working together to prepare
the pieces for my art show in February.
After Hiroshi printed and delivered 50 pieces of my computer art,
we now take over the preparations.
Using a type of board to back the pictures with,
each must be measured, cut, and lined up properly
to be mounted to the picture.
It sounds a lot easier than it is-
I’m sure anyone in wallpaper knows what I mean...

My birthday is coming up this Sunday, January 9th.
I have done birthday / live concert shows in the past,
but this year will be different.
I have no plans at present.

I get chills thinking that I had entertained the idea of going to
Thailand for an after-Christmas holiday-
I wanted to visit Phi-Phi Island.
But because my son has college exams,
I thought it best to stay put,
and allow the chuckwagon cook,
and motivational speaker to work
on this holiday.
Then, the news of my art show came,
completely obliterating the notion of going on a trip.

I say a prayer for all the souls lost in the tsunami -
And one for the souls who survived...
