I went with my friend Hiroshi,
this past Saturday, 9th February,
to visit the Fuji Art Museum,
in Hachioji.
From Jan 24th - March 23rd,
Masterpieces of the State Russian Museum
from Late 18th Century to Early 20th Century,
will be visiting from St. Petersburg, Russia.
It was a cold, cloudy afternoon, when Hiroshi and I
arrived by train at Hachioji Keio station.
I smelled snow...
We took a 15 minute taxi ride to The Fuji Art Museum...
I came to this show without much previous knowledge
of the works or the artists showing,
so I couldn't've known the impact this show would have on me.
Such heartbreaking realism.
There is no room for Abstraction, here.
This art is the window to those times-
This Realism had to be!
The treatment of the light, the details, unflinching-
From the sable collar of a woman's folk costume,
to the strapped on rag shoes of a peasant boy in the snow.
The detail and clear perspective of the architecture,
the skintones, and warmth in the eyes that looked as if you could
actually touch this person's cheek...
Each artist's work was so powerful!
This must be seen to be truly appreciated!
Some of my favorite artists and their works:
Ivan Shishkin
Winter
1890 Oil on canvas
The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia
Ilya Repin
Portrait of Sophia Dragomirova
1889 Oil on canvas
The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia
Ivan Aivazovsky
Storm at Cape Aya
1875 Oil on canvas
The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia
After the show, we went to the Museum Cafe,
which offered Beef Stroganoff,
and Borscht.

It was a fantastic show.
At the station, snow was falling in big, heavy flakes,
riding home I watched it from the train window,
and later at home...
красивый!
'Till Next Time...
