Thanks to my sister Deb for this one:

FEMALE PRAYER

Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,

One who's handsome, smart and strong
One who loves to listen long,

One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.

I pray he's gainfully employed,
When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.

Pulls out my chair and opens my door,
Massages my back and begs to do more.

Send me a man who'll make love to my mind,
Knows what to say to "how big is my behind?"

I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And always be my very best friend.

Amen.

MALE PRAYER

I pray for a deaf-mute nymphomaniac
with huge boobs
who owns a liquor store and a fishing boat.

This doesn't rhyme with anything and I don't
give a shit.

Amen

Alrighty...

Safe trip to my dear friend Michael
who leaves for The Maldives today.

Goodbye, June...

Till next time... 'Mela

Thank God it's raining today...
I'm in a festering, surly type like mood,
ladles and gentlespoons.

George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words:
Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker and Tits.

Getting some nice profanity out in the open,
and I’m feeling better already.

In the words of Stan_Mack and his real life funnies, that's "Shock Therapy."

We can all thank the likes of people like Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, and many, many more, for the freedom of expression that not so long ago
could've had you cooling your heels in stir...

I'm a New Yorker, folks.
NYC was my stompin' ground and bootcamp.
And that's largely the reason why I'm so pissed off now-

Or maybe because it's so damned hot in Tokyo for June.

Or because I'm sick and tired of the same 'ole crap
that has happened just one too many times
for me to say “it’s just business, nothing personal."

Japanese promoters and agents and their musical stereotypes
are getting on my last nerve!

Yet another musical job me and the band
have been turned away from on account of jag-offs
who don't even listen to our music,
but decide we're not the "right" color
to perform for their “New York-styled” show.

This outright discrimination in Japan in all areas,
is a fact of life.

All those opposed can buy an exorbitantly priced airline ticket,
made especially so for the summer months, and head for Narita.

You can consistently do fantastic shows, filling up halls, clubs, etc.,
with a voice and back up musicians that transcend stereotypes,
and have a resume and recordings to back up your story-
But to some mental defectives in the music biz here,
you are merely a face card,
to be sorted by color and race.

It must be close to July,
that seems to be the time
when the needle on the unbelievably-stupid-shit-o-meter
seems to go off the charts...

I'm off to immigration today, to get my passport travel friendly.
In Tokyo the immigration bureau has been moved to a much more
conveniently located place, NOT.
The plus side is there are more counters,
more staff, and more English being spoken.

But still, a visit there rates right up there with root canal work...
I'll just bring a newspaper, and dream of this!

The Big Band gig was great!

Akio Ueda wrote some fantastic arrangements for me
to perform with The Allstar Jazz Orchestra,
the final band at the event at Session Hall, Suginami-ku,
celebrating the Great American Songbook this past Sunday.

I chose a few numbers written by the wonderful
Harold Arlen,
as well as Jerome Kern, Fats Waller, Ralph Freed, Burton Lane, & Bobby Troupe.

My son Michio was even there, also my dear friend Michael,
as well as friends and fans.

This gorgeous cavernous hall was full.

First set, I performed with a combo:
Here was my set list...

How About You?
Over The Rainbow
The Way You Look Tonite

With The All-Star Jazz Orchestra

I've Got the World on a String
Ain't Misbehavin'
Stormy Weather

Encore: Rt.66

A Great Day of music!

I received many bouquets of flowers.
My room smells delicious today!

Happy Father's Day!

My Big Band gig is today.
I got a beautiful black silk beaded long dress for this occasion.

I hope to post pics a bit later...

It's the American Songbook, baby!

The gig at B-Flat Akasaka went well.
A great combination of musicians, and a helluva fun time, as well.
Suzuki-san, the manager at B FLAT has given us another date on August 29th, Monday.

Hell, they might even promote us this time...

My gig's tonite at the Happo-en.
A private party.
The Happo-en is a gorgeous Japanese style garden hotel.
Pity it is presently in the throes of the rainy season-
Kinda puts a damper (tee hee) on the outdoor part of the festiviies...

My band will be:

Takahashi, Keisaku- electric piano
Greg Chako- guitar
Mark Tourian- bass
Hase, Yosuke- drums.

Here's my new list of songs to keep me afloat in this rain:

Good Morning Starshine- from the musical "Hair"
Bring Me to Life- Evanescence
Just Another Night- Mott the Hoople
FIRE- The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
All the Way to Memphis- Mott the Hoople
Soul Shadows- Bill Withers with the Jazz Crusaders
Jesse- Roberta Flack
City of New Orleans- Arlo Guthrie
The Gambler- Kenny Rodgers
Illinois- Dan Fogelberg
Flowers on the Wall- The Statler Bros.
Land of Make Believe- Esther Sutterfield and Chuck Mangione

It's the shoubu season now in Japan.
Also called ayame, or irises, in English.
Every year, after the rice fields are flooded, these flowers are soon to follow.

This is a painting I did a few years ago of these flowers...
